Deacon Ali Hyde

I grew up in a market town in Nottingham and have belonged to the Methodist Church since I was just a week old. From childhood, I've had a heart for those on the margins, especially those with special educational needs, and that passion shaped my career in education, working with children and young people on the autistic spectrum and those who struggle with mainstream education. Alongside this, I was actively involved in the Girls' Brigade and its band, where I played the bugle. The Girls' Brigade motto: 'Seek, Serve, and Follow Christ', has been the thread running through my life, shaping my faith. It continues to be what delights my heart and guides me in ministry. I love being with people, creating spaces of belonging, and building community where everyone feels seen and valued. My faith has always been at the heart of that, finding Christ in the everyday and sharing God's love in ways that are real and meaningful.

Though I felt a call to ministry from an early age, my journey into the diaconate came later. As a Deacon, I live out a calling that is about serving others, walking alongside people, being a bridge between the church and the world, and holding sacred space for those who might otherwise feel forgotten. Being part of the Methodist Diaconal Order means that my ministry is shaped by a Rule of Life, committing me to prayer, community, and servant-hearted witness. This life of prayer and service grounds me, reminding me that all we do flows from God's grace. The Methodist tradition, with its deep roots in social holiness, speaks to my heart, reaching out to those in need, lifting up the vulnerable, and discovering what is on God's heart and where God is already at work in the Church and community. I love learning about and from people and different cultures, deepening my faith through the stories and experiences of others.

Away from ministry, I have two wonderful adult children, a niece and a nephew who bring so much joy to my life. I love camping, theatre and cinema, and I'm always happy to challenge anyone to a game of chess! Travel is another passion of mine, with Italy being one of my favourite places to explore. It is a joy and a privilege to serve here, and I look forward to all that God has in store for us as we continue to journey together.
